Synopsis

Aline and McKenna fall for each other as teenagers, only to be torn apart by her family’s interference and the class gap between them. The book skips the dual-timeline structure entirely, jumping forward a clean twelve years to show exactly what the separation cost him — the boy who left lighthearted has come back hardened — before asking whether either of them can let go of every reason they shouldn’t trust each other again.

Why We Loved It

The main storyline is pure Kleypas: a strong-willed & outspoken woman paired against a successful but emotionally distance alpha hero. And it’s glorious!

But maybe the best part is the B-plot: Aline’s younger sister and McKenna’s alcoholic boss, striking up their own secret romance. Both stories are beautifully told while balancing each other.
